Soccer Schedule From January 2011

People wanting to exercise their dogs at Forrest Park should note the following information.

The Town of Vincent confirmed on 21st January that they have approved authorised activities for Perth Soccer Club on Forrest Park at the following times only:
  • Tuesday 6pm to 8pm
  • Thursday 6pm to 8pm

During these times, dogs are to be kept on a lead, no matter where they are in the park, including the dog exercise area.

If the soccer club is using the park at times other than those mentioned above, the activity is not authorised, and therefore dog owners are free to use the park in the same manner they normally would i.e. off lead is okay. General courtesy is expected of course, but the soccer club members cannot demand dogs be on lead ... they are just another regular park user at that time.

Town of Vincent has promised to update the schedule near the club rooms for clarity. Please remember that other authorised activities continue to apply e.g. cricket on the weekends.

Forrest Park RENAMED!

Well it certainly seems that way! With the new signage going up on the clubrooms anyone would think Forrest Park has been renamed. The new signage certainly does not give the impression that the extensions to the community facilities - the majority of which were paid for by residents of the Town of Vincent - are there for the WHOLE community.

Well, contrary to the belief systems of some there are sports other than soccer and at this time with the World Cup commencing the Forrest Park Pooches offer the following food for thought:

JUST A DAY AT THE PARK

These great photos were taken by Riley's mum! Fabbo work!

RILEY

CONGRATULATIONS TO RILEY - PUPPY OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY

GENERAL
Riley is a super happy pup who comes bounding into the park to greet his mates each day. He has such a nice temperament and it shows because he seems to have a smile on his face all the time.

Mum Ann-Marie says Riley has been such a welcome addition to their family and the perfect companion for a pair of empty nesters.

Riley is a terrier cross...but crossed with what? Any terrier specialists out there we'd love to have your advice.

See you at the park soon Riley!

Time to Vote for Puppy of the Month for January

Happy New Year Forrest Park Pooch people...

I received no nominations for Puppy of the Month for January, so I popped all the names in a hat and pulled out three names - in no particular order:

RILEY
ANGEL
CLIFFORD

I have added the poll to the site, so please vote for the puppy you think should win...voting will close in three days, so get your vote in early.

Lucky and Pepper Go Beachcombing

Lucky stayed at Pepper's place for the holidays while Nicole went camping down south to a dog un-friendly camping area.

WELL, fun and adventure in Pepper's world consists of a day at the beach with his mum and Uncle Paul. When the waves are too big, Uncle Paul carries us through the gigantic breakers and lets us launch on a wave back to shore. Here is Pepper about to launch:

and a successful re-entry to solid beach:

Clever pups or what ??????

And then it was time for Lucky to try her paddling skills ... carefully carried out not too far ... (her first time, so you can still see the bottom)... yes, the legs are working as soon as they hit the water:

and yet another successful landing on solid ground:

Look at the size of those waves, no wonder we couldn't dive out ourselves!

And SURPRISE, SURPRISE, who should we see on the beach, but Ollie & Gracie, the two Schnoodles from Forrest Park. They were visiting Scarborough dog beach with their dogsitter and having a wonderful time:

It was such a busy day at the beach, so many people to talk to and so many new dogs to play with. After 2 exhausting hours, we hopped back into the car and came home for a nanna nap before Park time:

What a couple of happy puppies!

CHRISTMAS PARTY FUN

Thanks to all the humans and pooches who made this year's party so enjoyable. We had cool weather, a LOT of puppies, at least as many people, nice food and good chats.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and especially to Anna. Anna said she didn't really do anything, but there is always a need for someone to take the lead and propose a day and time and so on to get a group of people organised...so thank you to Anna for being that person. It was much appreciated by all.

So here's a small roll call of photos... if you have more photos and want to make them available to the group please email them to forrestparkpooches at gmail dot com...note that we will crop out the humans before posting them, as this is meant to be a doggy blog.

The Pageant Pups

You know the ones... with the mum or dad who forces poor junior into a costume to live the dream that they themselves failed to achieve... oh wait, we are talking about pups here not kiddies...

In all honesty the costumed pups were totally cool and made the event instantly festive in their bright colours and bells. Their mums and dads should be congratulated not only on their creativity but also their ability to actually catch their pups, get the costumes on them and have them keep them on! Here are just a few of the pictures - in addition Pippin, Angus, Bunny and others wore costumes or decorations, but were either too quick or too shy to be photographed:

Maddox and Jeffrey have each sacked their wardrobe people for not ensuring exclusivity in their outfit this year!

The Presents

Yes, when the present bag was opened the pups had a rush of blood to the head and many noses were pressed into the bag at once. As he is the current Puppy of the Month, Pepper was granted the right to choose first present... silly Riley went home without his, but he can pick it up later this week.

All of the presents were just great and thanks to everyone who participated. It was amusing to see pooch parents encouraging their pups to take a gift from the bag, and a few pups are clearly experienced gift openers able to tear paper in quick time to get through to the yummy treats inside.

More than one human noted that when the presents were opened and the treat munching began the pooches were the quietest they had been all afternoon!

The Chicken Did It!

A note to the person who put the chicken in the present sack... next year, can you please bring treats instead!

This toy was immediately loved and wanted by multiple puppies... so much so a small melee broke out over it. Much canine gruffing and human amusement!

The Human Food Factor

So many FFP pups know well which humans are treat carriers and who the soft touches are. Having a party where in addition to treats
human food was present was just too much for some.

Riley was moderately successful in his attempts to encourage his mum to share.

Lola, however, made the greatest effort in trying to access the human food. After several fruitless hops on her back legs as she tried to both see and taste the food on the table she took a step back and simply leapt onto the table. She was quickly lifted off and so managed only a single lick in Tasha's glass, but certainly gained the admiration of many there for her athleticism.

Spare a thought...
... for poor Genghis.

He had not two but four parts of his body removed last Monday - not only his boys but also his dew claws. This, coupled with a few warm days and some antibiotics, and wee Genghis was more interested in cuddles than playing. He did look cute though!

A safe and happy holiday period to all!

FUNNY PICTURES?

I was going through some photos this morning and found a sequence I took in the car one evening driving Ziggy and Lola home from daycare. They get so pooped out from the fun of play all day. Within minutes of getting in the car they were fast asleep...

Do you have a cool | funny | gross | must share picture of your pooch? If so send it to forrestparkpooches at gmail dot com with the details and we'll publish it here.

ONE MAKES IT...ONE TAKES IT

It is an irony to see a photo with Ramsay sitting right near the park poo bin and sort of emulating it.  The irony is that Ramsay is known for his poo making capabilities...its a skill he excels at.

Maybe he's protecting his contribution.  Anyway we need a good caption, so please comment against this post and give us your best funny caption for the picture.

MONEY FOR JAM...

...well sort of.

You might have noticed the ads on the right hand side of the page. They are there for a purpose...to raise money for the RSPCA. Our blog earns money from Adsense in two ways:
  1. We receive a payment for each rendering of the site i.e. when someone opens or refreshes it
  2. We receive a payment when people click on the ads to go and have a look at what the advertiser is offering
So...make Forrest Park Pooches a favourite on your PC and check it out each day...we will be keeping it updated for your amusement and to keep you motivated to look, and when you see an ad of interest, click on it for us please.

And so you can understand how easy this is...I added the Adsense to the blog on Monday 23 November. Its only Wednesday 25 November and already we have earned $10.29 for the RSPCA. Thanks that's great.

DREADLOCK HOLIDAY

Some of the pooches at the park are what is known as SWF (Scary White Fluffies) I happen to co-own two of them - Attila & Genghis. Attila is the elder of the two, at 14 months and Genghis is 5 months.

For the first time last week they went down to the river at Banks Reserve on Joel Terrace in East Perth and these pictures show just how much fun they had.

ELVES AMONG US!

Pepper's a pretty good looking boy whenever he's at the park to play. However, there are certain Saturday's when he is looking super sharp...and its because of a girl. And not just one girl - but more than a handful and they are all older than he is!

This is no sordid story, but rather one about the great part Pepper and mum Patricia play in enriching the lives of seniors living in a local nursing home.

Pepper is an animal companion, certified through Animal Companions WA to visit sick or elderly people to give them some licks and kisses and generally brighten their day. And the loving is not all one way; Pepper is usually the recipient of many treats and cuddles in the course of his fortnightly visits.

And the elf in the story...well that would be Pepper pictured here in his costume at the Animal Companions Christmas Party. Whilst he did win a prize for his costume - go Pepper - it was the prize for looking like a Christmas tree and not an elf...but hey, a prize is a prize.

Well done Pepper!

Time to Vote for Puppy of the Month for December

Maddox has had only a short run as POM for November, and thank goodness for that. Two reasons:
  1. Maddox's dad expected that the benefit of being POM was that other's would take care of Maddox's poop for the month! Yeeooow
  2. Moaners about the selection process for the inaugural award LOL

SO...here's your chance to vote for POM for December. I have put four contenders up to start with...if you want others added email me via the link on the site and we will extend the list.  The poll is on the sidebar under the POM picture.

Good luck to the contenders.

MADDOX

Maddox is the inaugural puppy of the month, for November 2009

GENERAL
Maddox is a happy boy who gets along with all of the other pups at the park. He loves a chase with just about anyone, and greatly enjoys a tussle with Pepper.

Without a doubt Maddox best buddy is Ziggy, and Ziggy's little sister Lola thinks Maddox is the best.

Maddox likes to drop down in the grass, imagining himself invisible to the other pups and then when one gets close he pounces. He gets hot and bothered easily though, and is often taking a moment in the shade before rejoining the fun.

RUBY

GENERAL
Ruby is one of the new gals in the gang. She was so shy on the first day she ran home as soon as she was off her lead! But she's used to the rough and tumble of play these days and is an avid romper in the group.

Ruby is a staffy, and when she gets a little bigger she may be a little rough for some of the smaller pups. However, she will always get a great play with Mickey when she is at the park.

Teaching Ruby to sit has been amusing - maybe she is an Italian staffy - because she uses her front paws for everything, including holding your hands when you are treating her for sitting. Very cute.

BACCI

GENERAL
Bacci is the big girl of the park. A cream coloured golden retriever, she is always beautifully groomed and full of happy tail wags.

Bacci's best buddy is Ramsay, and they like to tussle and wrestle together all the time. Bacci likes to play with the little puppies and does not understand why some of them find her deep bark a little worrying.

Baci is kisses in Italian, and Bacci is a girl with a ready sniff 'n lick, so her name is quite appropriate.

ZIGGY

GENERAL
Ziggy is a speedy boy who can be shy around new dogs and people and demanding when it comes to treats. Ziggy's name is based on his breed nickname - iggy - and he's an iggy with zip, hence he's a Ziggy.

Ziggy loves to chase almost any toy, although he sometimes gets distracted and does not bring the toy back every time. His favourite park play is a chase...whether he is doing the chasing or is the one being chased he's just happy when he is running at full tilt.

Ziggy's best mate is Maddox...they've been pals for a long while now.

GENERAL
Until the recent arrival of Winnie, Angie was the lone girl in the group of Miniature Schnauzers of Forrest Park.

She is in esteemed company with Jeffrey, Pepper and Max, and now baby Winnie.

Angie comes down to the park with her mum or dad and loves to play ball.

She confuses some of the humans - looking near identical to Pepper, but she has lighter legs.

Angie is laid back and always ready to play with any dogs at the park.

Daisy also loves the chase! Both chasing and being chased while dad Dean chats with the humans in the park.
